Page Roles

Page roles are the permission levels Meta Business Manager assigns on a Facebook Page, such as admin, editor, moderator, advertiser or analyst, so a teammate or agency partner gets exactly the access they need without ever seeing the account password.

Definition

A Page role is a named permission level inside Meta Business Manager: admin (full control, including who else has access), editor (can post and respond as the Page), moderator (can respond to comments and messages but not post), advertiser (can create ads and view insights) and analyst (view-only access to performance data). A Page owner or admin assigns a role to a person or, through partner access, to an entire agency.

Roles are revoked the same way they're granted, from Business Settings, with no password ever changing hands. This is the mechanism Meta One's business tiers layer team seats and Business Agent capacity on top of; it doesn't replace it.

Why It Matters

Page roles are the actual answer to credential sharing. An agency that never learns to use them defaults to trading real passwords over Slack or email, which survives long after a contract ends and violates Meta's terms of service. Roles fail safely: revoke one and access stops immediately, without anyone needing to change a password the agency never should have had.

Examples

  • •A client assigns an agency's account manager an editor role so they can publish posts, while a junior analyst on the same team only gets analyst access to view insights.
  • •An agency removes its own admin-level page role the day a client contract ends, instead of asking the client to change their Facebook password.

Common Mistakes

  • ✕Giving every team member admin access by default instead of scoping each person to the role their actual job requires.
  • ✕Treating a removed page role as the end of offboarding, without checking whether anyone also has the client's actual account password from before partner access was set up.
