See all ads on AdLibrary →Solid & Striped was co-founded in 2012 by Isaac Ross and Ali Sack in New York. Its retro-preppy swimwear quickly won fashion-editor endorsement and celebrity patronage, building a premium DTC and specialty-retail business. The brand extended into tennis and resort apparel, leveraging its coastal lifestyle aesthetic.
Solid & Striped relies heavily on editorial press and organic social to establish brand cachet, then uses paid media to convert already-warm audiences. Creative maintains a consistent retro-preppy visual language that makes each piece look editorial rather than product-ad. Browse Solid & Striped ads at AdLibrary.
Instagram is the primary paid and organic channel. Campaign imagery is clean, bright, and coastal—pools, boats, white walls—that reads naturally in-feed without feeling like advertising. Celebrity-associated organic content (Taylor Swift, Bella Hadid sightings) creates earned media spikes that paid campaigns capitalise on.
Copy themes: timeless American sportswear, resort season, the suit as a wardrobe investment, and new-category expansion (tennis, resort). Headlines are minimal and confident—the visual does the selling.
Solid & Striped shows how editorial brand positioning creates a virtuous cycle: press coverage builds aspirational cachet, celebrity sightings generate earned media, and paid campaigns convert the traffic that organic influence drives. Category expansion into tennis exploited the same 'coastal leisurée' positioning without diluting the swim core.
