See all ads on AdLibrary →Delvaux was founded in 1829 in Brussels by Charles Delvaux, making it the world's oldest fine leather goods house. In 1908 it filed the first patent for a leather handbag. The iconic Brillant bag (1958) requires 10+ hours of artisan work. Acquired by Richemont in 2021, Delvaux continues as an official Belgian royal supplier.
Delvaux's ad strategy is anchored in superlatives that are genuinely defensible: oldest house, first patent, royal warrant. These are not marketing claims — they are historical facts that competitors cannot refute. Paid campaigns deploy archival imagery alongside contemporary editorial photography. Instagram is the primary paid channel under Richemont ownership. Campaigns pair the Brillant bag and Le Tempête styles with Belgian cultural context — art, architecture, wry Belgian wit. Delvaux is unusual among luxury houses in using humour and playfulness as creative strategies without compromising prestige.
Core themes: world's oldest and first ('since 1829'), Belgian royal heritage, and exquisite craftsmanship ('10 hours per bag'). The brand occasionally uses sophisticated Belgian humour in campaigns — a tonal differentiator in an otherwise earnest luxury category.
Delvaux demonstrates that authentic historical superlatives ('oldest', 'first patent') create permanent competitive moats in luxury. Their use of Belgian wit in campaigns shows that luxury does not require solemnity — brand personality can be a differentiator even at ultra-premium price points. Richemont's digital investment shows heritage brands can lead in digital experience.
