See all ads on AdLibrary →Blacksocks is a Zurich-based DTC sock and underwear brand founded in 1999 by Samy Liechti and Beat Hauenstein. The brand launched what is widely regarded as one of the world's first online subscription commerce services — delivering quality Swiss-sourced socks on subscription. Still operating and expanding its basics range.
Blacksocks' advertising centres on the elegant simplicity of the subscription proposition: never think about socks again. The 'solved problem' framing appeals to quality-conscious, time-poor professionals. Performance ads use the gift-angle effectively — subscription socks for men is a perennially strong Q4 gifting product. Browse current ads at AdLibrary.
Facebook targets male 30-55 professionals and spouses/partners buying as gifts. Instagram is used for product photography and lifestyle content. The brand's long history and Swiss quality positioning are used as trust signals. Subscription conversion ads use the 'set and forget' convenience narrative.
Core copy: 'Swiss quality, automatic delivery', 'never run out of socks again', gifting simplicity. The concept of solving a mundane problem elegantly resonates with the busy professional target. Product quality claims (Egyptian cotton, Swiss craftsmanship) support the premium price point.
Blacksocks invented a category — subscription basics — that dozens of later brands (Dollar Shave Club, etc.) would scale into billion-dollar businesses. The lesson they established: subscription works best for replenishment products that customers hate shopping for. If your product solves a recurring need with low decision-value, subscription is a natural fit.
